The NCTTCA and Kühne Foundation Partner to Promoting Sustainable Development in the Northern Corridor Region
The Northern Corridor Transit and Transport Coordination Authority (NCTTCA) and the Kühne Foundation have joined forces to advance sustainable development in the Northern Corridor region.
This partnership was a key topic of discussion during a visit to the NCTTCA Executive Secretary, Dr. John Deng Diar Diing, by a delegation from the Kühne Foundation, led by Dr. Jörge Wiesse, CEO of the Kühne Climate Center. The visit, which took place on Friday 14th February, focused on potential collaboration in implementing the Northern Corridor Green Freight Strategy (NCGFS) 2030. This initiative aims to promote sustainable freight transport solutions, reduce carbon emissions, and enhance efficiency along the Northern Corridor.
The NCGFS 2030 is a transformative strategy designed to reshape the freight transport sector, with the ultimate goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. Through innovation and collaboration, the strategy seeks to balance economic growth with environmental sustainability, paving the way for a greener future.
During the visit, Dr. John Deng Diar Diing highlighted the significance of the partnership, stating:
"The Northern Corridor Green Freight Strategy 2030 represents a significant step forward in our commitment to sustainable development. By working with the Kühne Foundation, we are confident that we can drive meaningful change, reduce our carbon footprint, and create a more efficient and environmentally friendly freight transport system."
Dr. Jörge Wiesse of the Kühne Foundation echoed this sentiment, expressing enthusiasm for the collaboration. He emphasized the importance of leveraging expertise and resources to implement innovative solutions that not only reduce emissions but also enhance economic resilience in the region.
The collaboration between NCTTCA and the Kühne Foundation aims to:
- Promote the adoption of green technologies and practices in freight transport.
- Enhance the efficiency of logistics operations along the Northern Corridor.
- Reduce greenhouse gas emissions and contribute to global climate goals.
- Foster economic growth through sustainable development.
About the Northern Corridor Green Freight Strategy 2030
Developed by the NCTTCA in partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Climate & Clean Air Coalition (CCAC), the NCGFS 2030 aims to harmonize economic progress with environmental responsibility by:
- Enhancing fuel efficiency and reducing the carbon footprint of freight transport.
- Cutting down harmful pollutants to protect public health and air quality.
- Preparing the region for widespread Electric Vehicle (EV) adoption by 2030.
- Lowering costs through driver training and logistics optimization.
The strategy also prioritizes building resilience against climate impacts, ensuring the freight system remains robust and adaptable.
