The Northern Corridor Public Private Stakeholder Partnership Committee (Pppc) Concludes Its Country Consultations In All Member States

NCTTCA has just completed a three (3) week long Country Consultation Mission undertaken by the Chairperson of the Northern Corridor PPP Committee, Mr. Gilbert Langat, accompanied by the Executive Secretary, Mr. Omae Nyarandi and a technical team comprising of the Director and Deputy Director of the Private Sector Investment Promotion Program and the Head of ICT.

The Consultations, which were very fruitful, focused on the objective of meeting public and private sector players in the six (6) Member States of the Northern Corridor (Burundi, DR Congo, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan and Uganda), starting off at the Ministry of Investments in South Sudan and winding its tour at the Chamber of Commerce in Kenya.

Among the key take-aways from the Mission, were the following;

1. An appreciation of the effort made by the NCTTCA and the PPPC to engage the Member States at a personal level;
2. Need for more frequent, similar engagements;
3. Desire for capacity building and trainings for all Member States in areas of Corridor development, maritime transport, infrastructure, energy, environment and other associated courses key in ensuring growth and sustainability of the Corridor;
4. Commitment by Member States’ private sector to utilise and invest in the Corridor;
5. Identification of challenges and proposed actions towards addressing the same; and
6. The need for closer working arrangements between different agencies present in the Region, to foster partnerships, coordination and harmonisation of efforts.

The Mission also aimed at collecting data required for the Northern Corridor Business Information Portal which aims to profile enterprises in the NC Member States, present available opportunities for investments, encourage production for exports in response to new demand identified and open up opportunities for networking, communication, brand building, information sharing, identification of new markets within the Corridor and beyond.

The commitment for support and close collaboration brings a renewed enthusiasm for the PPP Committee which is determined to close the gap in private sector representation on Corridor matters.

NCTTCA will therefore continue to conduct coordinated engagements with private sector associations in all Member States and build synergies with public sector agencies so at to promote an enabling business and investment climate along the Norther Corridor.
